For Immediate Release: Local Photographer Hosts Panty Drive to Combat Period Poverty

Lafayette, LA - A. Dannette Photography, a local boudoir studio, is pleased to announce its panty drive to benefit EmpowHER., a program by Junior League of Lafayette aimed to facilitate better access to menstrual hygiene products for individuals in need. The panty drive will take place in the month of December.

According to Alliance for Period Supplies, two in nine (22 percent) females in Louisiana live below the federal poverty line. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 125,277 females live in Lafayette Parish, meaning 27,561 females (22 percent) live below the federal poverty line.

Limited access to menstrual hygiene products can hinder the ability to attend school. When girls are faced with starting their period in school and not having access to proper hygiene products such as tampons, pads, and underwear, can be both embarrassing and stigmatizing. Young women are often surprised to learn schools are unable to provide period supplies in order to manage an unexpected menstrual cycle. Junior League Lafayette hopes to combat this with projects such as uniform clothing and period supply drives throughout the year in the community. As a boudoir studio, A. Dannette Photography is proud to assist woman of any age in need.

April Courville, Owner of A. Dannette Boudoir says, “The embarrassment and shame young girls face when unexpectedly starting their period while at school isn’t addressed nearly enough. Drawing public attention to the needs of young women normalizes menstruation and helps them feel less isolated. Lack of supplies should not be an added stressor for these girls.”

Kimberly McCaffery of Junior League Lafayette says, “EmpowHER. is excited for A. Dannette Boudoir to bring awareness about women’s needs and period poverty. It helps us impact more lives in our communities.”

Items can be dropped off at Junior League of Lafayette Headquarters at 504 Richland Ave, Lafayette, LA 70508, or A. Dannette Boudoir studio at 104 Prince St, Lafayette, LA. Items in need include girls’ pre-teen and juniors sized cotton briefs, tampons, maxi pads, and sanitizing wipes. Additional items needed can be found here: https://qrs.ly/fze3se3
