Make a resolution this year to be more confident and to notice your own beauty, without measurement against anyone else’s. Make a resolution to take some time out for yourself to create it. If you’re coupled up, make it a point to share your beauty with your partner.
How do you do this? Set a goal to take photos of yourself at least once a month. I’m not talking about a selfie in the restroom mirror, I’m talking about photos that communicate the mystery, curves, shadows, and beauty that make up you. Before you close out the page thinking, “Yeah right, you’re out of your mind,” hear me out.
One of the ways you can feel empowered and confident as a woman is to see yourself in a different light. When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror and struck a sexy pose like Beyonce? Try it tonight. Of course none of us look like her and that’s ok. Focus on how it makes you feel. Do you feel kinda silly but also sort of like a badass? Taking selfies when you feel your best can have the same effect. I’ve got a few tips on how to get started, how to take the best photos (with your phone) and how it can positively impact your relationship with your partner.
Wear something that makes you feel good.
Heels=instant confidence. Slip into something that you feel great in, maybe that’s a slinky dress, a tight pair of jeans or a lace lingerie set. Add a pair of heels, some lipstick and you’re ready to go. To take it a step further, light some candles, put on your favorite tunes and turn it into a ritual of self care!
Practice a few poses in the mirror.
Try different poses to see which ones flatter your body. Standing poses are not meant for every body type so try seated on a chair or lying on your back. There are a few posing tips and camera tricks to look better in front of the camera.
Find good light.
Your best bet is to take your photos near a window that lets lots of light in.
Take interesting crops.
Taking photos where your face is strategically cropped out can be liberating. It allows you to see the image for what it is without getting caught up in self-critical chatter. Silence the inner-critic! Try tight shots of just your cleavage, a silhouette of your back and hips, or the curve of your bottom. You get the idea.
Find a fun photo editing software.
In addition to the native photo editor in your phone, there are tons of editing apps out there that will help you adjust exposure, contrast, color balance, etc. Filters can help even out skin tone or give it a vintage vibe.
Share with your partner regularly.
Imagine the surprise from your SO when they receive an unsolicited sexy pic. This acts as a gentle reminder that you are, in fact, the bomb in case they forgot. They’ll be in a hurry to get home to see the rest of what’s in store.
Be patient and get creative!
Make it a goal to do this once a month and don’t worry if the images don’t come out great the first few times. Even professional boudoir photographers started out somewhere! With a little trial and error, you’re images will improve as you learn. You’ll be surprised at how much you learn about your body too. Have fun with it, try different themes for each month and notice how your self esteem improves over the year.
