Boudoir Photography and Weight loss: Let’s Talk About It

August 12, 2025

Let’s get right to it:
Do you need to lose weight before your boudoir photoshoot?
The answer is a firm, confident, and loving NO.

Hi, I’m April Courville, the boudoir photographer behind A. Dannette Boudoir Photography, my studio is in Lafayette, Louisiana. and I want to walk you through why you absolutely do not need to change a thing about your body before booking your session. Yes, it’s something I say a lot but stick with me. There’s emotion behind it. There’s intention. And there are even a few technical photography reasons that may surprise you.

Let Me Say It Loud and Clear…

You do not need to lose weight before your boudoir shoot.

One of the main reasons I do what I do is because I believe women should celebrate themselves as they are, not who they hope to be one day, not the version of themselves five pounds lighter or ten years younger, but you, today, now.

Stop Waiting for a Milestone

For so many women, boudoir is treated like a reward, something we feel we have to earn. Maybe you’ve told yourself:

  • “I’ll do it when I hit my goal weight.”
  • “I’ll book my session after I finish my degree.”
  • “Maybe once I finally get my life together.”

But here’s the truth: you don’t have to earn this experience.
Think about everything you’ve already overcome. Think about the work you've done. The growth. The healing. The sheer strength it took to make it this far.
You’ve already earned it. Right now is enough.

Let’s Reframe “Health”

There’s this amazing shift happening in how we talk about our bodies.More and more, we’re learning to move away from thinness and instead focus on wellness. I’m a huge supporter of working out and eating well, not to shrink yourself, but to nourish your body and feel strong.

So let’s flip the script:
Instead of saying, “I’ll book my shoot when I lose weight,”
say:
“I’ll book my shoot when I feel strong.”
“I want to celebrate my healing.”
“I’m proud of the mental and emotional growth I’ve achieved.”

Have you overcome anxiety? Started therapy? Pushed through a tough chapter? That’s the real glow-up. That’s the celebration that matters.

Your Life and Your Body Deserve to Be Documented

Let me ask you something:
How many photos do you take of your kids, your family, your pets… and how many photos are you in?

Your body deserves to be in front of the camera, too.
This season of your life is important. Whether you’re at your strongest or your softest, whether you feel your most radiant or you're still figuring things out, this version of you is worthy of being seen, celebrated, and remembered.

Here’s What the Camera Really Sees

Let’s get into the technical side for a second.
From a photography standpoint, losing ten pounds doesn’t make a dramatic difference in how your photos turn out. That’s the truth.

Why? Because what you see in the mirror is not what I see through my camera lens.

With expert lighting, a perfectly fitting outfit, and a strong, flattering pose—your photos are going to be absolutely stunning. Whether you’re 120 pounds or 220 pounds, I promise: I’ve got you.

Confidence Doesn’t Come First, It Comes From the Shoot

The confidence you’re chasing probably won’t come from losing a dress size, but it can come from finally doing the shoot.

I’ve had so many women tell me they aren’t ready yet, that they don’t feel confident enough. But let’s be real, we don’t go to the doctor when we feel amazing. We go when we need to feel better.

So think of your boudoir session as a prescription for confidence.
It’s the thing that helps you step into the version of yourself you want to be.

Ready to Say Yes to Now?

If you’ve been putting this off waiting for a better time, a better weight, a better version of yourself, this is your sign.
